From my buddy halotolerant: "Etiquette on new platforms is hard! And people are all different! But just to explain a little if it helps: On DW you can 'subscribe' with or without 'granting access', so you can follow someone's feed but unless they grant you access you'll only see what they post publicly. (Also, you can manage different access lists with different levels of viewing privilege, and you can block people from all your entries - they can see them if they log out but won't be able to comment."
